Three nights in the Quebrada allow you to acclimatise gradually, climbing from Purmamarca at about 2,300 metres to Humahuaca at almost 3,000.

Day 1 — Purmamarca

Walk the Paseo de los Colorados in the afternoon and watch the Cerro de los Siete Colores change colour at sunset.

Day 2 — Salinas Grandes and Tilcara

Drive to Salinas Grandes early, return to Purmamarca for lunch and continue north to Tilcara.

Day 3 — Tilcara and Humahuaca

Visit the Pucará in the morning, then continue to Humahuaca and, in the afternoon, the Hornocal viewpoint.
